Abnormalities of Development .
In this video , we will learn about the Abnormalities of development.

There are three types :

The first abnormality is DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY:

Development delay : what do you mean by it ?
When a child’s development is significantly behind as what is expected .
For example in 6 months of age a child should be able to sit with support , but if even the child is unable to sit at one year of age , then it indicates developmental delay .

Then the next abnormality :
Developmental dissociation: when the rate of attainment of milestones is significantly different in different domains .
Example : The child is fine in rest of the domains , but sometimes the child is not able to speak , then that is isolated speech delay .

The third abormality :
Ususally the sequence to attain the developmental milestones are same ,
But
Developmental deviancy : if the developmental milestones are occurring out of sequence
Eg : if the child is able to crawl , but the child is unable to sit . That is crawling comes before sitting

So what is GDD or Global developmental delay ?
When there is significant delay in two or more domains of development.
For example a child having motor delay and speech delay .

RED FLAG SINGS
Now let us come to the red flag signs of development
now let us take the example of sitting with support , all of us know that sitting with support comes within 6 months . But if even at 6 months 10 days , if the child is unable to do that , that doesn’t indicates the child is going through developmental delay . There’s the maximum age limit of upper limit to that . So Red flag signs are those upper limits .

Starting off with sone important gross motor mile stones:

Sitting with support : the usual age to achieve that is on six months old . The upper limit to achieve that is on 9 months old .

Standing with support : the usual age is on 9 months , but the upper limit to this is 12 months , that means if the child is unable to achieve is even on 12 months , then this is an abnormality in development

Walking with support :
Usually it is achieved on 12 months , but the upper limit is 15 months . Which is the red flag

Then let’s discuss about some fine motor development :

Immature pincer gasp : usually it is achieved by 9 months , but if the child is unable to achieve it on 12 months as well , then this is a red flag sign .

Scribbling : the ususal age to achieve is 15 months , but if the child is not able to scribble even on 24 months (upper limit ) then it’s definitely abnormal .

Now moving onto social milestones :
Social smile : the usual age to attain age is from 1.5 to 2 months
But if the child is unable to do that on 3 months ( upper limit ) then definitely there’s some abnormality .
Waves bye bye : the usual age here is 9 months and the upper limit is 12 months .

Now coming to the language milestones :

Babbling : should ususally come by around 6 months , but if it is not even attained on 9 to 12 months , then that’s an abnormal development

The last one
Single words : should usually come by around 12 months , but if the child is unable to attain it on 16 to 18 months , then that’s a red flag .

so this is all about the abnormalities of development, see you in the next video thank you !
