Hi guys , so I am back with another video , in this video we will be discussing about ovulation. So what is the life of the oocyte , the life of the oocyte is from 24 to 48 hours , after fertilization the embryo survives and reaches the uterine cavity on day 3 to 4. There are 8 cells on day three and 16 cells on day 4. The embryo implants as earliest on day six to ten days of ovulation on the juicy secretory endometrium . In terms of menstrual cycle the ovulation is on the 14th day . The implantation window of menstrual cycle is from day 20 to 24. What happens to the ruptured follicles and what are it’s functions ? It ruptures and shrinks and produces a yellow body called the corpus luteum , it makes the endometrium secretory and helps in implantation , the follicle ruptures to release the oocyte and before rupture the follicle produces estrogen from the granulosa cells, which in turn helps in the proliferation of endometrium.
The set number of follicles are there for around 46 to 47 years of age . Now let us understand what happens in a 17 years old sexually inactive girl : the oocyte dies within 24 hours, the follicle ruptures and shrinks into corpus luteum . The corpus luteum releases the progesterone which in turn mix the endometrium secretory .
By 10 days of ovulation the corpus luteum starts to degenerate and there is a withdrawal of progesterone which causes the shedding of the endometrium. The cervix is so tight and the uterine contraction is required to cause menstruation which is painful and it causes Dysmenorrhea. Prostaglandins are released due to the rupture of the follicles , these prostaglandins contracts the uterus and opens the cervix . It causes complete emptying and causes pain , on the day of ovulation the follicular artery bleeds ; there is a collection of blood in the pouch of Douglas which causes the pain during ovulation and this pain is called the mittelschmerz . The ovulating cycles are painful whereas the anovulatory cycles are painless, the shedding occurs in ovulatory cycles due to the progesterone withdrawal whereas in anovulatory cycles there are no progesterone. There is a regular withdrawal in regular withdrawal whereas in anovulatory cycles we see irregular withdrawals. So this what we have known in this video . See you in the next video. Thank you !
