Dyslexia .
Hello friends in this video we will be speaking about Dyslexia .
Now what is Dyslexia ?
It is a receptive language based learning disability that is characterised by difficulties with decoding , fluent word recognition and reading or comprehension skills .
Now what does word decoding means here ?
Word decoding is the ability to understand that each letter or letter combination in the word has a sound any by combining these , the word can be read or spelled .
symptoms of Dyslexia :
. Reduced reading experiences that can impede growth of vocabulary
. Dyslexic children read very slowly
. They also have difficulty in spelling
. Low self confidence and frustration
. Developing psychological and emotional problems
Now what are the etiological factors for dyslexia ?
. Genetic factors are recognised to play a strong role
. Upto 50 percent of the children of dyslexic parent and 50 percent of dyslexic child have dyslexia .
Diagnosis of dyslexia .
. The diagnosis is clinical , standardized tests are used to test speed , accuracy and comprehension in reading and spelling ability , In relation to the age and school grade .
Now coming to the management ,
How do we manage it ?
. affected children are best taught in small groups by teachers trained on the principle of phonics .
. For older children the management stresses ‘more on accommodation rather then remediation . For example : use of laptops with spell check , regarded books , giving extra time for writing tests or use multiple choice questions.
