Hi guys I am back with another video , in this video we will be discussing about the fontanelles , so Fontanelles can be divided into two types that is anterior Fontanelles and posterior fontanelles . So let us come to know a little bit more about both of these two types. The shape of the anterior Fontanelles is Diamond in shape whereas the shape of the posterior fontanelles is triangular in shape . The size of anterior Fontanelles is 2 cm / 2 cm , it is present at the junction of coronal and sagittal sutures and it is present between frontal and parietal bones whereas the posterior is present between sagittal and lambdoid suture . Anterior Fontanelles closes by 18 months , whereas posterior fontanelle is closed at 6 to 8 weeks of life . Now let us come to know how do we examine the anterior fontanelle ? It is best examined by putting the baby in sitting position , the normal finding would be slightly depressed and pulsatile . If the fontanelle is bulged , there is the presence of increased intra cranial pressure which can happen due to meningitis . If the Fontanelles is depressed , it is the case of dehydration and we can see this in diarrhea, can also be seen in microcephaly, craniosynostosis. Large anterior Fontanelles can be seen in Down’s syndrome , rickets , hydrocephalus. So this is all about fontanelle , see you in the next video ,Thank you !
